Course Descriptions

Beginner Combination classes (levels I-IV)

This class is a 45 minute to one hour class depending upon the level, which is divided into equal segments of ballet and tap. The classes are designed primarily for those children ages 3 to 8, and teach counting, coordination, and creative movement as well as classical ballet and tap terminology and technique.

Combination Classes (levels V-X)

This class consists of ballet, tap and jazz, each segment lasting between a half hour and an hour, depending upon the level. The age group for theses classes can range from 6 to 15 and the students begins to develop ballet and tap technique into workable dance combinations. Jazz is being introduced to the young student and is based on ballet technique. Jazz must be taken in conjunction with ballet.


Advanced Ballet (levels I-VII)

A complete study of classical ballet technique based upon the Cecchetti Method  

 

Advanced Tap (levels I-VII)

A comprehensive study of American tap dancing which emphasizes terminology as well as sound technique

Advanced Jazz (levels I-VII)

A thorough study of jazz movement and an introduction to stylized jazz by combining classical, cultural, and funk.

Cecchetti (levels I-VII)

Cecchetti is a ballet technique class open to those students levels VII and above whom the instructor feels is ready for serious commitment to ballet. At the end of the school year the students are tested by National Examiners to determine if they sufficiently understand and know the ballet technique and terminology being taught at that level. In order to achieve Pointe a student must take and pass Cecchetti levels I and II.

Pointe (pre-Pointe to Point VI)

Pointe is an extension of ballet and trains the young dancer to build her strength when dancing on Pointe shoes and develop her coordination and control.

 

Lyrical Ballet (beginner-advanced)

Lyrical ballet is open to any dancer who is in level VII or higher and is currently enrolled in ballet class. Lyrical takes classical ballet technique and combines feeling and emotion in order to portray a story.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a fusion of Modern and Lyrical Ballet techniques. It is the newest from of dance and has become one of the most popular genres over the past 5 years.

Hip Hop (beginner-advanced)

The newest fad in social dancing. Fun and easy to learn for all ages.

Tumbling (introduction-advanced)

Teaches tumbling tricks done in gymnastics while incorporating strength and flexibility.

Acting and Improvisation

This class is a study of acting and improvisation techniques which help to teach students the art of self expression necessary for the stage. This is a non-dance class open to everyone age 11 and over.
